Who runs this site

Tabletop RPG Music is run by Ian Fisher, a sole trader trading as Ian Fisher Composer. I am the data controller for the personal data described on this page.

For anything about the site, the music, licensing or your data, email me at the address above.

The short version

What is saved in your browser

The site uses your browser's local storage (not cookies) to remember things you have asked it to. This stays on your device, is not sent to me unless stated below, and you can clear it at any time through your browser's settings for this site.

ItemWhat it is for
trpg.authKeeps you unlocked: the tier password you entered, or your Patreon login session (which expires after 90 days), plus your download pass (see Downloads).
trpg.playlists, trpg.foldersYour playlists and playlist folders.
trpg.plStamp, trpg.plDirtyTracks whether your playlists need syncing (only used with cloud sync).
trpg.queue, trpg.historyYour play queue and recently played tracks.
trpg.settings, trpg.hotkeysPlayer settings such as fades and looping, and your keyboard shortcuts.
trpg.theme, trpg.filtersW, trpg.railW, trpg.railCollapsedLight or dark mode and the size of the side panels.
trpg.listenVolYour volume when listening along to a GM's session.
trpg.selectionThe tracks and extras you have ticked, and when you last changed them, so your selection is still there next time.
trpg.dlPrefs, trpg.railModeThe download formats you picked, and whether the side panel shows Playlists or Downloads.
trpg.returnViewWhich page to bring you back to after logging in with Patreon. Kept only for that browser tab and removed as soon as you are back.

The site also installs a small offline cache (a service worker) so the player loads quickly and keeps working on a poor connection. It holds copies of the site's own files, not information about you.

The one cookie involved is on the Patreon login server, not this site: a security cookie called st that lasts up to 10 minutes while you log in, to make sure the login that comes back from Patreon is the one you started. It is deleted as soon as the login finishes.

Logging in with Patreon

When you choose "Log in with Patreon", Patreon asks you to approve access and then tells my login server your Patreon user ID, your membership status and the titles and IDs of the tiers you hold on my Patreon. That is used to work out which tracks to unlock.

Your browser then keeps a signed login session containing your Patreon user ID. It expires after 90 days, or straight away if you lock the site again.

For downloads, my login server also stores a small membership record against your Patreon user ID: the tier you hold, the time it was last checked, and the refresh token Patreon issues when you approve access. When you download something and your record is more than a day old, the server uses that token to ask Patreon whether you are still a member, and updates the record. This is how downloads stop working when a membership ends, without you having to log in again while it continues.

The record stays on the server until you ask me to delete it. You can also cut off the server's access to Patreon at any time by removing this site from the apps connected to your Patreon account; after that, downloads ask you to log in again.

Patreon's own handling of your data is covered by Patreon's privacy policy.

Cloud playlist sync

If you are logged in with Patreon, your playlists, playlist folders and keyboard shortcuts are saved on my server (Cloudflare's storage) against your Patreon user ID, so they appear on any device where you log in. Nothing else is stored with them.

Deleting a playlist on the site while you are logged in also deletes it from the synced copy. A small record linked to your Patreon user ID (your folders, keyboard shortcuts and the time of your last sync) stays on the server until you ask me to remove it. Email me and I will delete everything stored for your account.

Listen-along sessions

When a GM broadcasts a session, my server holds the current playback state (which track is playing, its artwork and audio link, and the play position and settings) so that players can follow along. Players joining a session do not log in and give no details; the GM only sees how many people are listening.

A session and everything stored for it are deleted when it ends: a couple of minutes after the GM leaves, or after 4 hours without activity.

Downloads

Download files are stored on my own storage at Cloudflare and are sent to you by my login server, which checks your membership first (see Logging in with Patreon). When you log in with Patreon your browser is given a download pass, saved with your login in trpg.auth. It identifies your Patreon account to the server and is included in your download links. It is removed if you lock the site.

When you download several files as a zip, the server briefly stores the list of files in it with your Patreon user ID, so the zip can be built when your browser fetches it. That list is deleted after an hour. I do not keep a record of what you have downloaded.

While files are being moved off Google Drive, a few download links may still point to Google Drive, and Google receives your IP address if you use one.

Streaming and links

Like any website, the servers that deliver this site, its audio and its downloads receive your IP address and basic request details (such as your browser type) in order to send you the files and protect the site from abuse. The site, its audio and its downloads are delivered by Cloudflare.

Links to Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Bandcamp and other platforms only contact those services when you click them, and those services' own privacy policies then apply.

Who else handles data

These companies may process data outside the UK, including in the United States, using the safeguards for international transfers that UK data protection law requires.

Why I am allowed to use this data

I use the data above only to provide the features you choose to use: unlocking the tracks your Patreon membership includes, giving members their downloads, syncing your playlists and running listen-along sessions. For Patreon members this is necessary to provide what your membership includes; otherwise it is in my legitimate interests in running the site, in ways you would expect.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask me for a copy of the data I hold about you, ask me to correct or delete it, object to how I use it, or ask me to restrict its use. Email ian@ianfishercomposer.com and I will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this page

If the site starts handling data differently, I will update this page and the date at the top.
